Play Van Abbe – Part 4
[ 26/02 – augustus 2011 ]
The exhibition Play Van Abbe Part 4 – The Pilgrim, the Tourist, the Flaneur (and the Worker) will be opened on Saturday 26 February at 16.00 h by Matthijs Rümke, Artistic Director of Het Zuidelijk Toneel and Charles Esche, director of the Van Abbemuseum. In Play Van Abbe Part 4 visitors are literally invited to play a certain role; that of the Pilgrim, the Tourist and the Flaneur. The way in which you will experience the museum and its art will depend on your role. Roles aren’t fixed, visitors are free to change them during their visit. The choice of works in the exhibition is based on the Van Abbemuseum’s collection supplemented by a number of key loans.More information

Programme 2011 / 75 years
The Van Abbemuseum celebrates its 75th anniversary in 2011. The 18-month long exhibition programme Play Van Abbe comes to an end this year with a symposium which reviews what we have done and, more importantly, considers the consequences for the future. The exhibition project with the working title Out of Here will offer a refreshing look at the innovative vigour of art in this region, with a focus on Eindhoven as its main city. Three different exhibitions will show international art projects, artists who have made work in Noord-Brabant, and private collections of a similarly international outlook in Noord-Brabant.
A theme common to our activities in 2011 will be our endeavour to escape the confines of the familiar museum walls and to enter into increasingly collaborative relations outside them. We will make active contributions to events in Eindhoven such as GLOW, Dutch Design Week and Flux/S, and we will cooperate with many different companies and organisations from the region. We are also starting a new project involving collab involving collaboration between artists and local residents in the Eindhoven district of Woensel West.
